Computer people are hereby banned from naming software projects ever again.

• GIR = GObject Introspection Repository
• GObject = GLib Object
• GLib = GTK (C) Library
• GTK = GIMP Tool Kit
• GIMP = GNU Image Manipulation Program
• GNU = GNU’s Not UNIX
• UNIX = Uniplexed Information and Computing Service

GNU is not Uniplexed Information and Computing Service Image Manipulation Program Tool Kit Library Object Introspection Repository

Yeah.

There is also the messenger application GAIM

• GAIM = GTK+ AOL Instant Messenger
• AOL = America OnLine
• GTK = see below

This was documented on fedi threads and partially on other places as well, but those sources are quite ephemeral. Someone should keep it on their blog.

Although not a set of chained abbreviation, OSPF deserves a mention for having:

• Stub
• Totally Stubby
• Not-So-Stubby Area (NSSA)
• Totally Not So Stubby Area (Totally NSSA)
